A tradition that began with the Buccaneers

Cheerleading has been part of the franchise's identity from its beginning. The original name reflected the team's pirate theme; the name familiar to fans today came more than two decades later.

  1. 1976

    The SwashBuclers era begins

The squad was known as the SwashBuclers when the Buccaneers entered the NFL in 1976, establishing a sideline tradition alongside the new football franchise.

  2. 1999

A name that carries Tampa Bay around the world

In April 1999, the club announced the name Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cheerleaders. The change made the squad's connection to the football team easier to recognize nationally and internationally, while retaining its performance and community roles.

  3. 2025

    Recognizing five decades of cheer

During the franchise's 50th season, the club announced a 50 Seasons of Cheer halftime celebration for its December game against New Orleans. The planned alumni performance and historical tribute recognized the generations who had contributed to the tradition.

Helping the fans bring the noise

For the Krewe in the stands, the cheerleaders are part of the rhythm of a Buccaneers home game. Choreographed performances give fans another reason to get on their feet, join the celebration and share the excitement with the people around them. The club's October 4, 2026 game-day gallery offers a current look at the squad in action at Raymond James Stadium.

Building anticipation before kickoff

The cheerleaders have an established role in the stadium's pregame entertainment. When the Buccaneers introduced The Raid for the 2024 home opener, the announcement included the Bucs Cheerleaders among its on-field performers, alongside the Buc Beat Line and other game-day elements. It is a clear example of how the squad helps set the atmosphere before the football begins.

The preparation behind the performance

The finished routines are only the part the crowd sees. The team's 2026 field-rehearsal gallery offers a look at the work before game day. Practicing together allows performers to refine their timing and formations so a routine reads clearly across a large stadium.

Sharing that spirit with the community

The cheerleaders' public role also creates opportunities for encouragement, learning and service. These documented examples show how members have supported young people, joined charitable events and brought a connection to Tampa Bay to service members overseas.

Supporting Cut and Color Funds the Cure

The Buccaneers' official coverage shows cheerleaders participating in the 12th annual Cut and Color Funds the Cure at AdventHealth Training Center on June 11, 2026. The event benefited the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation. Their presence alongside other members of the organization is a recent example of the squad lending its visibility and team spirit to a charitable cause.

Bringing Bucs pride into schools

The team's Raise the Flags in Schools program connects the buildup to home games with local classrooms. The Buccaneers' education page describes elementary-school pep rallies that bring players, cheerleaders and Captain Fear together with students. These visits give young fans a chance to experience some of the excitement of game day in their own school community.

Helping fans learn a routine

The March 7, 2026 She is Football Market & Festival schedule offered both a Junior Cheer clinic and an adult cheer experience taught by the squad. The listings welcomed beginners, making participation approachable for people who wanted to try something new, learn choreography and build confidence.

Spending time with young people

In July 2011, cheerleaders accompanied young people from The Centre for Girls and Hope Children's Home to Busch Gardens. The outing launched a year-long outreach initiative involving the two charities. The account describes time spent learning and enjoying activities together, with members encouraging education and healthy habits through their mentoring role.

Taking Buccaneers spirit overseas

In June 2009, a dozen Buccaneers Cheerleaders joined an Armed Forces Entertainment tour in Okinawa, Japan. The club's report describes a variety show at Camp Hansen that brought together the cheerleaders, visiting Buccaneers players and the band The Crash Moderns. It was an opportunity to share a little football-season excitement with U.S. service members far from home.

A place for the next generation

Junior cheer opportunities also have a history of their own. In fall 1999, the Buccaneers advertised four clinics with instruction from squad members and a planned halftime appearance at the October 24 game against Chicago. That connection between learning a routine and sharing in a stadium performance helps explain the appeal for young fans and their families.
