GAME RECAP — A LEAD LOST LATE

Tampa Bay carried a 16–3 lead into the fourth quarter, but Pittsburgh took control of the closing stretch and escaped Raymond James Stadium with a 26–19 overtime victory. Aaron Rodgers found Germie Bernard for the deciding touchdown, and Jalen Ramsey’s fourth-down sack ended the Buccaneers’ attempt to answer. The loss dropped Tampa Bay to 1–5; Pittsburgh improved to 4–2.

The afternoon began with Tampa Bay’s defense setting the terms. A’Shawn Robinson’s first-quarter interception gave the offense a short field and led to Chase McLaughlin’s 43-yard field goal. Jalon Daniels then finished an eight-play, 60-yard march with a two-yard touchdown pass to Emeka Egbuka early in the second quarter. A second McLaughlin field goal stretched the advantage to 13–0 before Chris Boswell connected from 52 yards as the first half ended.

After forcing a three-and-out to begin the second half, the Buccaneers put together a 17-play, 70-yard drive that consumed 9:02. Bauer Sharp’s first career reception gained 21 yards, and McLaughlin’s 33-yard field goal made it 16–3. Tampa Bay had controlled much of the game, but settling for three points left Pittsburgh within reach.

Rodgers brought the Steelers back with a five-yard touchdown pass to Darnell Washington at 13:48 of the fourth quarter. Boswell added a 39-yard field goal, then converted from 58 yards with 1:55 remaining to tie the score at 16. Former Buccaneer Jamel Dean followed with a 40-yard interception return to the Tampa Bay three-yard line. The Bucs kept Pittsburgh out of the end zone, but Boswell’s 20-yard kick gave the visitors their first lead with 1:21 left.

Tampa Bay still had one response. Despite another sack on the final possession of regulation, Daniels and the offense moved close enough for McLaughlin to deliver a 53-yard field goal with eight seconds remaining. The kick tied the score at 19 and completed a perfect four-for-four field-goal afternoon for McLaughlin.

The Buccaneers won the overtime coin toss and elected to kick. Pittsburgh drove 70 yards in 12 plays, using 6:45 before Rodgers connected with Bernard for a six-yard touchdown. Tampa Bay received its opportunity to match, but its possession ended on fourth-and-eight when Ramsey sacked Daniels. Pittsburgh outscored the Bucs 23–3 across the fourth quarter and overtime.

Daniels, starting again with Baker Mayfield inactive because of his right thumb injury, finished 22 of 43 for 164 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Egbuka led Tampa Bay with seven receptions for 48 yards and its only touchdown; Bucky Irving rushed for 46 yards on 19 carries. Rodgers completed 33 of 49 passes for 253 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. DK Metcalf caught 11 passes for 93 yards, while Bernard added 11 catches for 87 yards and the overtime score.

Both defenses recorded five sacks for 42 yards. David Walker supplied two of Tampa Bay’s sacks, with Keionte Scott, Rueben Bain Jr. and Al-Quadin Muhammad adding one each. Those defensive contributions and McLaughlin’s kicking kept the Bucs in position to win, but the offense produced only 224 net yards and converted six of 19 third downs. The next opportunity comes in Carolina, where Tampa Bay begins its division schedule in Week 7.
