A number that became part of Tampa Bay

For twelve seasons, a pass climbing toward No. 13 gave Buccaneers fans a reason to rise from their seats. Mike Evans made the difficult look familiar: the catch above a defender, the sideline grab, the touchdown that brought the cannons to life. Then he came back the next year and built on it.

His Tampa Bay career finished with franchise records of 866 receptions, 13,052 receiving yards and 108 receiving touchdowns. A championship and six Pro Bowl selections gave that production its proper company. The numbers are remarkable; their staying power is what made Evans a fixture for the Krewe. Official career milestones.

Evans moved to San Francisco in March 2026. This Spotlight celebrates the twelve seasons he gave Tampa Bay while following the career that continues beyond them. No. 13 remains the jersey at the heart of his Buccaneers story. The 49ers’ signing announcement.

The Buccaneers chapter

2014–2025: twelve seasons of raising the bar

2014–2019 Big expectations, bigger production.

Tampa Bay selected Evans seventh overall on May 8, 2014, pairing the Texas A&M receiver with Vincent Jackson. The Bucs wanted size and the ability to win contested catches; Evans arrived with both. The original draft announcement.

His rookie season brought 1,051 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. He caught a career-high 96 passes in 2016, then set Tampa Bay’s single-season receiving-yardage record with 1,524 in 2018. By the end of 2019, the once-promising draft pick had six consecutive 1,000-yard seasons behind him. Season-by-season records; franchise retrospective.

2020–2022 A championship, then more milestones.

The 2020 season finally brought Evans to the playoffs, where his first four appearances ended with a Super Bowl ring. He opened the run with 119 receiving yards at Washington and scored in both the Divisional Round and NFC Championship. His playoff debut; championship-run statistics.

He followed with a career-best 14 receiving touchdowns in 2021. The next season’s division-clinching win over Carolina supplied another signature afternoon: ten catches, 207 yards and three touchdowns on January 1, 2023. Tampa Bay’s memorable-games retrospective.

2023–2025 History, a final catch and a farewell.

In 2023, Evans earned his second AP second-team All-Pro selection and shared the NFL lead with 13 receiving touchdowns. His 2024 season added an eleventh straight 1,000-yard campaign and a sixth Pro Bowl invitation. All-Pro recognition; sixth Pro Bowl selection.

Injuries limited him to eight games in 2025, ending the yardage streak. He finished that season with 30 catches, 368 yards and three touchdowns. Tampa Bay’s farewell the following March closed a twelve-year playing chapter with appreciation for what he had accomplished on and off the field. The Buccaneers’ tribute.

January 5, 2025 • A finish the Krewe will remember

Nine yards that meant eleven years

On the final play of the 2024 regular season, Evans stood at 995 receiving yards. His nine-yard catch against New Orleans carried him to 1,004 and set off a celebration that reached far beyond one more reception. Eleven seasons into his career, he had reached 1,000 yards in every one of them. Tampa Bay’s account of the final catch.

The 2014–2024 streak was the longest to begin an NFL career and matched Jerry Rice’s record for consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons at any point. It ended in 2025, but its place in history was already secure. The season table below shows the entire run, including the years when every last yard mattered. Texas roots, a national stage

From the basketball court to the football field

Evans grew up in Galveston, Texas, and attended Ball High School. Basketball was a major part of his early athletic life; he played just one high-school football season, as a senior. The combination of size, timing and coordination gave him an unusual foundation for the receiver he would become. Official personal biography.

Texas A&M provided the next step. His two playing seasons there were enough to make him one of the first players selected in the 2014 draft.

Two seasons that made the NFL take notice

Across 26 college starts in 2012 and 2013, Evans caught 151 passes for 2,499 yards and 17 touchdowns. His final season produced 1,394 yards and 12 touchdowns, with consensus All-America and first-team All-SEC honors, plus a place among the Biletnikoff Award finalists.

That 2013 season included 279 receiving yards against Alabama and 287 yards with four touchdowns against Auburn. These were the performances that made his ability to win the ball in the air impossible to overlook. Texas A&M’s draft-declaration announcement.
