TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS "RING OF HONOR"

November 8, 2009 Buccaneers Initiate Ring of Honor

Buccaneers have introduced a Ring of Honor program, replacing the retired Krewe of Honor, in time for the Bucs 30th anniversary celebration of the 1979 Buccaneer team. Presentation will occure during a Throwback games halftime with the unveiling of the individual's name added to the "Ring of Honor" stadium façade. The Buccaneers planed to induct just one player into the Bucs Ring of Honor each season, in 2015 two individuals were inducted.

#63 Lee Roy Selmon - Defensive End (1976 - 1984)

2009 - RING OF HONOR: Honored, on November 8th, 2009, presentation during halftime of the 1st Throwback game against Green Bay Packers. "This is a very exciting day for us, and a long time coming," said Bucs co-chairman Bryan Glazer. "When we bought the team in 1995, before we even went to a Buccaneer game, we didn't know much. But we were told we had to go to Canton, Ohio and represent the team at the induction ceremonies for the Hall of Fame and Lee Roy Selmon. It was a great beginning to our 15 years here, and I'm very proud to be here talking about this, the first inductee into the Ring of Honor at Raymond James Stadium. We've very pleased that person is going to be Lee Roy Selmon." Selmon, 54, played for the Bucs from 1976-84. The former first-round pick went on to make six Pro Bowls and help Tampa Bay's 1979 team earn a trip to the NFC Championship Game.: »READ MORE ABOUT SELMON HERE»

2013 - RING OF HONOR: Honored, November 11th, 2013, during the Miami Dolphins halftime presentation. Under the intense spotlight of Monday Night Football, Sapp's name and number will be immortalized on the same stadium's façade as he becomes the fifth person inducted into the Buccaneers' Ring of Honor. Sapp made an indelible mark on not only the Buccaneers but the entire NFL during his 13-year career, and now his name will be permanently on display for future generations of Tampa Bay fans and foes alike.

"It's unbelievable. I couldn't dream of anything like this," Sapp told a packed auditorium that included his mother, aunt, ex-teammates and former coach Tony Dungy, who arrived in 1996 -- Sapp's second as a pro -- and challenged him and Brooks to "chase Joe Greene and Jack Ham" and become the best players they could be.: »READ MORE ABOUT SAPP HERE»

#55 Derrick Brooks- Linebacker (1995 - 2003)

2014 - RING OF HONOR: Honored, September 14th, 2014, during the St. Louis Rams halftime presentation. Brooks' Ring induction will come during a game against the same team he stunned with a game-clinching pick-six almost exactly 12 years earlier, during the Bucs' Super Bowl run. The defending NFC Champions visited Raymond James Stadium in Week Three of that 2002 campaign and were mounting a fourth-quarter rally behind prolific quarterback Kurt Warner, with Brooks sidelined at the time by a hamstring strain. When fellow linebacker Shelton Quarles also had to leave the game with an injury, Brooks famously inserted himself back into the game without asking the coaches and almost immediately returned an interception 26 yards for a touchdown. Knowing the Bucs' 26-14 victory was final in hand, Brooks simply continued running through the end zone and into the tunnel on the way to the locker room training table.: »READ MORE ABOUT GILES HERE»

While speaking about the six-time Pro Bowler, Buccaneers co-chairman Bryan Glazer perfectly summed up his unique talent, saying he had the “size of a fullback, hands of a tight end, speed of a running back.” During his 12-year career with the Bucs, A-Train put that skill set to good use, finishing with the most touchdowns (71) in the franchise history. To get an idea of how remarkable that total is, the next closest number is 46, set by former running back James Wilder.: »READ MORE ABOUT A-TRAIN HERE»

Williams, who was named the Super Bowl MVP, passed for a Super Bowl record 340 yards and four touchdowns, with one interception. Barber's playing career stretched from 1997, when he arrived as a third-round pick out of Virginia, through 2012, making him the only player ever to suit up for 16 Buccaneer seasons. In that time he played in 241 regular-season games and started 232, both franchise records. That included 240 consecutive games from the start of the 1998 season; Barber never missed a game due to injury. He started his last 215 games, the sixth-longest streak of starts by any player in NFL history. That included a run of 200 straight starts at cornerback before he spent most of his final seasons at safety, and that's the longest run of consecutive starts at that position in league history."
