MONDAY AFTER SUPER BOWL A NATIONAL HOLIDAY
FIRE THE CANONS!
As a die-hard NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneer fan, I am here to make a case for what should be a no-brainer—the Monday after the Super Bowl must be declared a national holiday. It's time to acknowledge what every football-loving American already knows: waking up for work the morning after the biggest sporting event of the year is an absolute travesty!
The Super Bowl isn't just another game. It’s the grandest spectacle in sports, a cultural phenomenon that brings millions together. Whether your team is in the fight or you’re just there for the commercials and halftime show, everyone is tuned in. And let’s be real—it’s not just about the game.
It’s about the parties, the camaraderie, the overindulgence in wings, pizza, and more than a few beverages. The Super Bowl is an all-day (and all-night) event, leaving fans across the country exhausted and, let’s face it, barely functioning the next morning.
For most of us, our teams have been out of contention for weeks, others months. We've already accepted our fate and are looking forward to next season. But the Super Bowl is our last true NFL fix before the agonizing wait for the draft, free agency, and training camps. It’s our moment to immerse ourselves in football one last time before the long, dark offseason. How can we possibly be expected to be productive at work after enduring the emotional rollercoaster of the game, the epic halftime show, and the inevitable postgame analysis?
Studies have even shown that productivity plummets on the Monday after the Super Bowl. Millions call in sick, arrive late, or spend their entire workday talking about the game instead of actually working. Let’s be honest, bosses across the country know it’s happening. Wouldn’t it just make more sense to acknowledge the reality and make it official? We plan to Call-Off anyway!
Other holidays exist to celebrate moments that unite us as a nation. What is more unifying than the Super Bowl? It doesn’t matter if you’re a die-hard fan, a casual viewer, or just someone who loves a good party—Super Bowl Sunday is an American tradition. So why not embrace it fully and allow the country a well-deserved day of rest and recovery?
The Monday after the Super Bowl should be a time to reflect, to relive the best (and worst) moments, and to properly recover from a night of celebration (or sorrow). It’s about time we recognize what every NFL fan already knows—Super Bowl Monday deserves to be a NATIONAL HOLIDAY.
So let’s rally together, FIRE THE CANNONS, yell, scream, stomp your feet football fans! Let’s demand what is right and just. Give us our day of rest, our time to recover, and our chance to bask in the glory of football for just a little bit longer. After all, the next season is still months away, and we need all the energy we can get to make it through.
What are your thoughts?
