WEEK 5 POST-GAME REPORT

2026 Buccaneers Record: 1-4

THE CAPTAIN'S LOG

A swashbuckling tale of wagon trains, Texas longhorns, a 72-ounce steak, an unauthorized bonfire, a suspicious Texas Ranger, and the miraculous discovery that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers can actually WIN a football game!

CHAPTER I: WESTWARD HO! THE PARROT HAS LOST HIS BLOODY MIND!

After four consecutive defeats, three nervous breakdowns, two questionable medical evaluations, and a parrot whose navigational skills would embarrass a drunken pelican, our beloved Captain finally received some encouraging news.

The Buccaneers were sailing west!

Destination: Arlington, Texas.

Opponent: Dallas Cowboys.

Mission: Find a victory before the Captain's liver filed for independent statehood.

"ARLINGTON!" shouted the Captain. "A fine voyage! Open waters, favorable winds, and perhaps a Texas-sized barrel of rum!"

His feathered first mate studied the map, scratched his beak, and announced:

"ARRR! CAPTAIN! I'VE ARRANGED SPECIAL TRANSPORTATION! WE'RE TAKING THE TRAIN!"

"A TRAIN?" exclaimed the Captain. "Splendid! A comfortable cabin, dining accommodations, and perhaps a lovely stewardess delivering refreshments!"

Unfortunately, the parrot had neglected to mention one minor detail.

It was a WAGON TRAIN.

Not an Amtrak train.

Not a luxury railcar.

Not even a locomotive.

A bloody wagon train.

Six wooden wagons, twelve stubborn mules, three cowboys named Earl, and a cook who apparently believed every meal required beans.

"WHAT IN DAVY JONES' LOCKER IS THIS?" the Captain roared.

"AUTHENTIC TEXAS TRANSPORTATION!" squawked the parrot.

"WE'RE CROSSING THE COUNTRY AT FOUR MILES AN HOUR!"

"BETTER THAN THE BUCS' OFFENSE LAST WEEK!"

The Captain couldn't argue with that.

By the second day, he'd developed saddle sores without ever riding a horse, lost his favorite boot in a mud hole, and accidentally challenged a longhorn steer to a staring contest.

The steer won.

GREAT LONGHORNS!

The Captain quickly learned that Texas longhorns are not particularly impressed by pirate swords, battle cries, or threats of walking the plank.

Especially when the nearest body of water is a cattle trough.

The Captain attempted to explain maritime law to the animal.

The longhorn lowered its head.

The Captain reconsidered his position.

The parrot shouted, "CAPTAIN! I BELIEVE HE'S CHALLENGING YOU TO A DUEL!"

"NONSENSE! HE'S MERELY ADMIRING MY UNIFORM!"

Moments later, the Captain was sprinting across the prairie, pursued by approximately 1,800 pounds of extremely irritated Texas beef.

The parrot watched from the wagon.

"LOOK AT THAT! THE CAPTAIN'S FINALLY DEVELOPED A RUNNING GAME!"

CHAPTER II: THE GREAT AMARILLO STEAK MASSACRE

Somewhere along this landlocked nightmare, the wagon train rolled into Amarillo, where the Captain discovered a magnificent establishment known as The Big Texan Steak Ranch.

Home of the legendary 72-ounce steak challenge.

Now, anyone familiar with our Captain knows he has never encountered a challenge that couldn't be improved by overconfidence, exaggerated storytelling, and several mugs of rum.

"SEVENTY-TWO OUNCES?" he thundered. "WHY, BACK IN TAMPA, WE HAVE BERN'S STEAK HOUSE! A CULINARY TREASURE! I'VE CONQUERED STEAKS BIGGER THAN THAT!"

The parrot whispered, "Captain, Bern's doesn't make you eat an entire cow in an hour."

"NONSENSE! BRING ME THE BEEF!"

The waiter arrived carrying what appeared to be half a deceased livestock operation, accompanied by a baked potato, shrimp cocktail, salad, and enough bread to feed a small naval fleet.

The Captain drew his sword.

"PREPARE TO BE DEVOURED!"

Twenty minutes later, his belt buckle surrendered.

Thirty minutes later, he began negotiating with the baked potato.

Forty minutes later, the parrot requested medical assistance.

At precisely forty-seven minutes, the Captain leaned backward, stared at the ceiling, and announced:

"I BELIEVE I'VE DISCOVERED THE NORTHWEST PASSAGE!"

Then he disappeared beneath the table.

FOR THE RECORD, I DID NOT PASS OUT!

I was merely conducting an emergency structural inspection of the restaurant flooring!

And I most certainly did not hear somebody announce that Tampa Bay had brought two rookies to Texas.

One playing quarterback.

And the other attempting to eat an entire steer.

The parrot, naturally, sold photographs to three Cowboys fans.

Traitorous feathered scoundrel.

To make matters worse, a nearby gentleman wearing a Dallas Cowboys hat leaned over and asked:

"Hey, pirate! How's that Tampa Bay football team doing?"

The Captain slowly lifted his head.

"WE'RE IN A REBUILDING PHASE!"

"Rebuilding what?"

"OUR DIGNITY!"

The entire restaurant erupted in laughter.

The parrot ordered dessert.

The Captain ordered a stretcher.

And somewhere beneath that table, the legend of the Amarillo Beef Disaster of 2026 was born.

CHAPTER III: TAILGATING TEXAS STYLE — WANTED: ONE PIRATE, ARMED WITH A BONFIRE!

Having survived the wagon train and the Great Amarillo Beef Incident, our Captain finally arrived outside AT&T Stadium.

"AT LAST!" he cried. "CIVILIZATION! FOOTBALL! AND A PROPER TAILGATE!"

He immediately began organizing what he described as a traditional Buccaneers pre-battle celebration.

A pirate flag.

Three barrels of rum.

A cast-iron cooking pot.

A suspicious quantity of firewood. (could be wagon parts)

And one bonfire large enough to signal passing aircraft.

Within minutes, a uniformed gentleman approached wearing a large silver star.

"GOOD DAY, SHERIFF!" the Captain shouted. "HAVE YE COME TO WELCOME THE TAMPA BAY INVASION?"

"Sir, I'm with security."

"EXCELLENT! THE COWBOYS HAVE SENT THEIR OFFICIAL WELCOMING COMMITTEE!"

"Sir, you cannot have an open bonfire in this parking lot."

"BONFIRE? THIS IS A CEREMONIAL NAVAL SIGNAL!"

"Put it out."

"BUT HOW SHALL OUR FLEET FIND THE STADIUM?"

"Sir, the stadium is directly behind you."

The Captain turned.

There stood AT&T Stadium, an enormous architectural marvel illuminated like a spaceship.

"BLAST ME BARNACLES! THAT'S NO STADIUM! THAT'S A COWBOY DEATH STAR!"

Things deteriorated further when the Captain attempted to explain that a pirate vessel technically qualified as recreational transportation and therefore should be permitted to dock beside the team buses.

Security disagreed.

The parrot attempted to negotiate.

Security disagreed more enthusiastically.

And when the Captain asked whether the gentleman's Texas Ranger star entitled him to complimentary rum, the conversation ended rather abruptly.

Apparently, Arlington's finest have absolutely no appreciation for maritime traditions.

The Captain then made a second tactical error.

He announced that he had discovered three perfectly good parking lots — Lots 3, 8, and 9 — that appeared suspiciously empty.

"PLENTY OF ROOM FOR A PROPER PIRATE ENCAMPMENT!"

The security officer sighed.

"Sir, tailgating is prohibited in those lots."

"PROHIBITED? THIS IS TEXAS! THE LAND OF FREEDOM!"

"Not in Lots 3, 8, and 9."

"WHAT ABOUT MY COOKING FIRE?"

"Charcoal or gas only. No open flames or deep fryers."

The Captain stared in disbelief.

"NO OPEN FLAMES? NO DEEP FRYERS? NEXT YOU'LL TELL ME I CAN'T FIRE MY CANNONS!"

"Sir, you have cannons?"

The parrot immediately flew away.

"PARROT! GET BACK HERE!"

"NO THANK YOU, CAPTAIN! I'VE ALREADY BEEN ARRESTED IN CLEVELAND!"
THE CAPTAIN'S PRO-TAILGATING TIP

Avoid Lots 3, 8, and 9 entirely, as tailgating is prohibited there under the supplied parking guidance. Cooking must follow stadium rules, including charcoal or gas equipment where permitted. No open bonfires or deep fryers. Confirm current regulations before arriving.

Additional advice: Do not refer to stadium security as "landlocked privateers," and never ask a Texas Ranger whether his horse has a parking pass.

After a lengthy discussion, several apologies, and the surrender of one ceremonial cannon, the Captain was finally allowed to enter the stadium.

His parting words to the security officer?

"YOU MAY HAVE WON THIS BATTLE, SHERIFF, BUT I'LL BE BACK!"

"Sir, please don't."

CHAPTER IV: THURSDAY NIGHT TERROR — THE COWBOYS DRAW FIRST BLOOD!

After an extensive security inspection, during which authorities confiscated his ceremonial cannon, two questionable bottles, and a wooden plank labeled "VISITING TEAM," the Captain finally entered AT&T Stadium.

He took his seat, adjusted his tricorn hat, and surveyed the battlefield.

"TONIGHT," he declared, "WE SHALL RECLAIM OUR HONOR!"

The Cowboys promptly marched 70 yards down the field.

Dak Prescott and company wasted little time exposing the Buccaneers' defensive vulnerabilities. Javonte Williams contributed a 21-yard gain, George Pickens helped move the chains, and a defensive pass interference penalty against Zyon McCollum provided additional assistance.

Williams finished the drive with a one-yard touchdown plunge.

Dallas 7. Tampa Bay 0.

The Captain stared at the scoreboard.

"OH, FOR THE LOVE OF BLACKBEARD! WE'VE BEEN HERE FIVE MINUTES!"

The parrot leaned over.

"SHALL I ORDER THE EMERGENCY RUM?"
"ORDER TWO!"

But something remarkable happened.

Instead of collapsing like a poorly assembled deck chair, the Buccaneers responded.

Rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels began demonstrating something Tampa Bay fans had almost forgotten existed.

Composure.

A scramble here. A 10-yard completion to Cade Otton there. A defensive holding penalty against DaRon Bland kept the drive alive.

Chris Godwin added 14 yards, Emeka Egbuka moved the offense closer, and Daniels eventually found Bucky Irving in the flat for a five-yard touchdown.

BUCCANEERS 7 — COWBOYS 7

The Captain rose to his feet.

"WE SCORED! AND NOBODY HAD TO CALL THE COAST GUARD!"

The parrot fainted.

Or perhaps he was merely imitating the Captain's performance in Amarillo.

CHAPTER V: THE 61-YARD MIRAGE AND THE CURSE OF THE YELLOW FLAG

The second quarter became a defensive struggle, with both teams exchanging punts and opportunities.

Sean Tucker converted a crucial third down, and Bucky Irving delivered a sharp 13-yard gain to help move Tampa Bay into scoring territory.

Then Chase McLaughlin stepped forward and absolutely launched a magnificent 61-yard field goal.

The Captain erupted!

"BY THE BEARD OF DAVY JONES! THAT BALL NEARLY REACHED FORT WORTH!"

Unfortunately, the officials had other plans.

Delay of game.

Kick nullified.

No points.

The Captain slowly lowered his sword.

"HOW DOES ONE DELAY A GAME WHEN WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOUR WEEKS FOR OUR OFFENSE TO ARRIVE?"

The parrot offered no explanation.

Instead, he began selling yellow handkerchiefs labeled "OFFICIAL BUCCANEERS SOUVENIRS."

Fortunately, Tampa Bay's defense tightened.

Keionte Scott tipped a Prescott pass, while Zyon McCollum provided excellent coverage on George Pickens to force a punt.

But before halftime, Prescott connected with Ryan Flournoy for a 48-yard gain, setting up Brandon Aubrey's 41-yard field goal.

At the break:

DALLAS 10 — TAMPA BAY 7

The Captain sat quietly, staring into his empty mug.

"Three points," he whispered. "Just three points."

The parrot nodded.

"That's fewer than the number of steaks you claimed you could eat."

"ONE MORE WORD, AND YOU'RE GOING INTO THE CHILI!"

CHAPTER VI: BUCKY IRVING UNLEASHES THE KRAKEN!

Whatever happened inside Tampa Bay's locker room at halftime deserves to be bottled, labeled, and distributed throughout the entire Buccaneers organization.

Because when the second half began, BUCKY IRVING TRANSFORMED INTO A ONE-MAN PIRATE INVASION!

Irving took the handoff, spotted a crease, made a devastating cutback, and exploded through the Dallas defense.

Seventy-two yards!

SEVENTY-TWO BEAUTIFUL YARDS!

Cowboys defenders scattered like deckhands abandoning a sinking ship.

The Captain leaped onto his seat.

"RUN, BUCKY, RUN! RUN LIKE THE RUM STORE IS CLOSING!"

The parrot screamed.

"HE'S GOT MORE YARDS THAN OUR WAGON TRAIN COVERED IN THREE DAYS!"

On the very next play, Daniels handed the ball to Emeka Egbuka, who swept around the edge for a 14-yard touchdown.

TAMPA BAY 14 — DALLAS 10

The Captain began waving his flag so violently that three nearby Cowboys fans requested relocation.

But the Buccaneers weren't finished.

Oh, no.

For the first time all season, this battered pirate ship had discovered favorable winds.

CHAPTER VII: THE COWBOYS ARE BOARDING THEIR OWN LIFEBOATS!

Dallas attempted to respond, but Tampa Bay's defense had apparently decided that allowing opposing offenses to roam freely across the field was no longer acceptable.

David Walker disrupted a Prescott pass, sending the football fluttering helplessly into the air.

And there stood Yaya Diaby.

Waiting.

Watching.

Receiving an early Christmas present.

INTERCEPTION!

The Captain nearly swallowed his pipe.

"WE STOLE THE BALL! WE ACTUALLY STOLE THE BLOODY BALL!"

The parrot squawked, "ISN'T THAT PIRACY?"

"EXACTLY!"

Moments later, Daniels spotted Tez Johnson streaking downfield and delivered a gorgeous deep pass.

Sixty-four yards!

The football sailed through the Texas night like a cannonball fired from the deck of the Jolly Roger.

Johnson hauled it in, setting Tampa Bay up at the Dallas 15-yard line.

And who better to finish the attack than Bucky Irving?

A one-yard touchdown run.

BUCCANEERS 21 — COWBOYS 10

The Captain stood motionless.

He checked the scoreboard.

Rubbed his eyes.

Checked again.

"PARROT..."

"AYE, CAPTAIN?"

"ARE WE WINNING?"

"AYE!"

"BY ELEVEN?"

"AYE!"

"AND THIS IS AN ACTUAL NFL GAME?"

"AYE!"

The Captain removed his hat.

"FETCH ME A PHYSICIAN. I BELIEVE I'M EXPERIENCING HAPPINESS."

CHAPTER VIII: SPECIAL TEAMS JOIN THE MUTINY!

Just when the Cowboys thought things couldn't get worse, Miles Killebrew arrived with an entirely different opinion.

On a KaVontae Turpin return, Killebrew delivered a critical forced fumble.

The football broke loose.

Kevin Knowles recovered it at the Dallas 37-yard line.

ANOTHER TURNOVER!

The Captain was now running through the stadium aisle waving his flag and shouting:

"WE'RE STEALING EVERYTHING THAT ISN'T NAILED DOWN!"

The parrot quickly reminded him that the stadium souvenir shop remained off-limits.

Although Tampa Bay couldn't convert the opportunity into a touchdown, Chase McLaughlin calmly drilled a 41-yard field goal.

TAMPA BAY 24 — DALLAS 10

Fourteen points ahead.

On the road.

Against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Captain began questioning whether he had survived the steak challenge and entered some strange alternate universe where Buccaneers football was enjoyable.

"PINCH ME!" he demanded.

The parrot bit his ear.

"NOT THAT HARD, YE FEATHERED DEMON!"

CHAPTER IX: THE COWBOYS REFUSE TO WALK THE PLANK!

Of course, anyone who has followed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers understands one universal truth.

No victory is complete without at least one unnecessary cardiac episode.

Tampa Bay marched downfield again, but Sean Tucker was ruled short of the goal line on fourth down.

Dallas seized the opportunity.

Prescott eventually connected with George Pickens on a 17-yard touchdown pass.

The Cowboys attempted a two-point conversion.

FAILED!

TAMPA BAY 24 — DALLAS 16

Eight points.

One possession.

The Captain's hands began trembling.

The parrot quietly removed all sharp objects from the immediate area.

"NOT AGAIN," the Captain whispered.

"CAPTAIN, HAVE FAITH!"

"FAITH? I'VE HAD FAITH FOR FOUR WEEKS! I'M RUNNING ON FUMES AND ANTACIDS!"

The Cowboys continued fighting, and with just over a minute remaining, Prescott looked for Jake Ferguson.

The football left his hand.

The stadium held its breath.

And suddenly...

ALEX ANZALONE APPEARED LIKE A GHOST SHIP OUT OF THE TEXAS FOG!

INTERCEPTION!

At the Tampa Bay 12-yard line!

GAME OVER!

THE COWBOYS HAD BEEN SUNK!

The Captain threw his hat into the air.

The parrot performed an unauthorized victory dance.

And somewhere in Amarillo, a restaurant employee reportedly heard the distant cry:

"SEVENTY-TWO OUNCES OF VICTORY, YE LANDLUBBERS!"

CHAPTER X: THE HEROES OF THE HIGH SEAS

For four miserable weeks, the Buccaneers' pirate vessel had been battered by storms, attacked by opposing fleets, and occasionally sabotaged by its own crew.

But on this glorious Texas evening, several Buccaneers stepped forward and reminded the football world that the Pewter Pirates still had cannons capable of firing.

BUCKY IRVING — THE TEXAS TORNADO

21 carries | 165 rushing yards | 1 rushing TD | 1 receiving TD

If there was one Buccaneer who deserved to ride out of Arlington wearing a sheriff's badge, it was Bucky Irving.

His 72-yard explosion was the turning point that transformed Tampa Bay's offense from a drifting rowboat into a fully armed battleship.

Irving finished with 165 rushing yards and two total touchdowns, punishing defenders, finding open lanes, and demonstrating that a successful running game can do wonders for a quarterback's confidence.

"The Captain watched his magnificent 72-yard run and immediately declared:

'THAT'S IT! SELL THE WAGON TRAIN! WE'RE RIDING BUCKY IRVING BACK TO TAMPA!'

The parrot tilted his head.

'Captain, he's a running back, not a horse!'

'AFTER 165 YARDS AGAINST DALLAS, HE CAN BE WHATEVER HE BLOODY WELL PLEASES!'"

CHAPTER X: THE HEROES OF THE HIGH SEAS (CONTINUED)

JALON DANIELS — THE ROOKIE WHO FOUND HIS SEA LEGS!

19 completions | 25 attempts | 189 yards | 1 touchdown | 1 interception | 110.2 passer rating For four weeks, our beloved Buccaneers ship had been navigating through storms with a quarterback situation that occasionally resembled a drunken sailor attempting to assemble furniture during a hurricane.

But on this glorious Texas evening, rookie Jalon Daniels demonstrated something our Captain hadn't witnessed in quite some time.

A QUARTERBACK WHO APPEARED TO KNOW WHERE HE WAS GOING!

Daniels showed composure, confidence, and the ability to improvise when protection broke down. His five-yard touchdown connection with Bucky Irving helped Tampa Bay answer Dallas' opening score, while his magnificent 64-yard strike to Tez Johnson set up another critical touchdown.

The Captain was beside himself.

"PARROT! DID YE SEE THAT?"

"AYE, CAPTAIN!"

"HE THREW THE FOOTBALL TO ONE OF OUR OWN PLAYERS!"

"THAT'S GENERALLY THE OBJECTIVE, CAPTAIN!"

"THEN WHY HAS IT SEEMED SO BLOODY COMPLICATED?"

The parrot had no answer.

Neither did the Cowboys.

And while Daniels still has plenty to learn, this performance offered something Buccaneers fans desperately needed.

HOPE!

The Captain immediately announced his intention to promote Daniels to Chief Navigator of the Buccaneers Fleet.

The parrot objected.

"BUT CAPTAIN! THAT'S MY JOB!"

"EXACTLY! AND LOOK WHERE YE BLOODY BROUGHT US!"

TEZ JOHNSON — THE HUMAN CANNONBALL!

1 reception | 64 yards

One reception.

Sixty-four yards.

And enough excitement to make our Captain spill an entire mug of perfectly good rum.

When Daniels launched that deep ball toward Tez Johnson, it appeared to hang in the Texas sky longer than the Captain had spent waiting for the wagon train to reach Arlington.

Johnson hauled it in and raced downfield, helping position Tampa Bay for another touchdown.

"BY THE BEARD OF BLACKBEARD!" the Captain screamed.

"THAT LAD'S GOT WINGS!"

The parrot looked offended.

"I HAVE WINGS!"

"AYE, BUT HE ACTUALLY GOES WHERE HE'S SUPPOSED TO!"

The parrot refused to speak for the next fifteen minutes.

It was the most peaceful quarter of football the Captain had experienced all season.

ALEX ANZALONE — THE COWBOY EXECUTIONER!

5 total tackles | 1 game-clinching interception

Every great pirate adventure requires a hero who appears at the precise moment all hope seems lost.

Enter Alex Anzalone.

With Dallas desperately attempting to erase Tampa Bay's eight-point advantage, Prescott looked toward Jake Ferguson.

Unfortunately for the Cowboys, Anzalone had apparently received an invitation to the same destination.

And he arrived first.

INTERCEPTION!

GAME OVER!

The Captain stood atop his stadium seat, waving his sword toward the heavens.

"ANZALONE! YE MAGNIFICENT SEA DOG! I'M NAMING A CANNON AFTER YE!"

The parrot squawked.

"CAPTAIN, WE DON'T HAVE ANY CANNONS LEFT! SECURITY CONFISCATED THEM!"

"THEN WE'LL NAME THE WAGON AFTER HIM!"

And somewhere in Arlington, a bewildered wagon driver wondered why his transportation business had suddenly become part of an NFL victory celebration.

ZYON McCOLLUM AND JACOB PARRISH — THE PEWTER DEFENSIVE FORTRESS!

There was a time earlier this season when the Captain believed Tampa Bay's defensive secondary consisted of four sailors holding umbrellas against cannon fire.

But against Dallas, the defensive backs showed grit, determination, and a welcome willingness to disrupt opposing receivers.

Zyon McCollum battled the Cowboys' talented receiving corps, including CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, delivering important coverage throughout the contest.

Jacob Parrish contributed three pass breakups, frustrating Dallas' passing attack.

"PARROT!" the Captain exclaimed.

"AYE?"

"OUR DEFENDERS ARE ACTUALLY DEFENDING!"

"SHALL I ALERT THE NEWSPAPERS?"

"ALERT EVERY PORT FROM TAMPA TO TORTUGA!"

MILES KILLEBREW AND KEVIN KNOWLES — THE SPECIAL TEAMS PIRATES!

A great pirate victory isn't achieved through cannon fire alone.

Sometimes victory comes from a perfectly timed ambush.

Miles Killebrew delivered that ambush by forcing a fumble on KaVontae Turpin's return, and Kevin Knowles recovered the loose football.

The takeaway helped produce three valuable points and extended Tampa Bay's advantage.

The Captain was delighted.

"NOW THAT'S PROPER PIRACY!"

The parrot nodded approvingly.

"WE STOLE THEIR POSSESSION!"

"AND THEN WE STOLE THREE MORE POINTS!"

"CAPTAIN, I BELIEVE THEY CALL THAT COMPLEMENTARY FOOTBALL!"

"CALL IT WHATEVER YE PLEASE! I CALL IT BEAUTIFUL!"

CHAPTER XI: A MOMENT OF SILENCE FOR THE FOUR-GAME NIGHTMARE

For the first time in the 2026 NFL season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had something to celebrate.

A victory.

Not a moral victory.

Not a respectable loss.

Not another postgame explanation about missed opportunities, unfortunate penalties, or promising developments that somehow never reached the scoreboard.

AN ACTUAL, GENUINE, BONAFIDE, FULLY CERTIFIED NFL VICTORY!

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24.

Dallas Cowboys 16.

The losing streak was over.

The Captain sat quietly in the nearly empty stadium, staring at the final score.

For several minutes, he said nothing.

The parrot became concerned.

"CAPTAIN?"

Silence.

"CAPTAIN, ARE YE ALL RIGHT?"

Still nothing.

"CAPTAIN, HAVE YE SUFFERED ANOTHER STEAK-RELATED MEDICAL EMERGENCY?"

The Captain slowly turned.

"PARROT..."

"AYE?"

"WE WON."

"AYE, CAPTAIN."

"WE ACTUALLY WON."

"AYE."

"AFTER FOUR WEEKS OF MISERY..."

"AYE."

"AFTER CLEVELAND, THE VIKINGS, AND EVERY OTHER BLOODY NIGHTMARE..."

"AYE."

"AFTER THE MISSING PARROT, THE HAUNTED STADIUM, THE EMERGENCY RUM INFUSION, AND THAT WRETCHED WAGON TRAIN..."

"AYE, CAPTAIN."

A tear rolled down the old pirate's weathered cheek.

The parrot leaned closer.

"CAPTAIN, ARE YE CRYING?"

"ABSOLUTELY NOT!"

"THEN WHAT'S THAT RUNNING DOWN YOUR FACE?"

"SEA SPRAY!"

"WE'RE IN ARLINGTON, TEXAS!"

"THEN IT'S TEXAS SEA SPRAY! NOW FETCH ME MY FLAG!"

And with that, the Captain stood proudly, raised the red-and-pewter colors, and let loose a battle cry that echoed through the stadium.

"RAISE THE FLAGS! FIRE THE CANNONS! THE BUCCANEERS HAVE WON A BLOODY FOOTBALL GAME!"

Several stadium employees politely reminded him that the facility was closing.

The Captain informed them that history was being made.

They informed him that history needed to leave through Gate C.

CHAPTER XII: THE GREAT TEXAS ESCAPE — A PIRATE'S VICTORY PARADE!

With victory secured, the Captain announced that the crew would celebrate their triumph with a grand parade through Arlington.

Unfortunately, the parade consisted of one exhausted pirate, a sarcastic parrot, two Cowboys fans who had mistaken them for stadium entertainers, and a wagon driver demanding payment.

The Captain marched proudly down the sidewalk, waving his Buccaneers flag.

"MAKE WAY! MAKE WAY! THE CONQUERORS OF DALLAS ARE DEPARTING!"

A passing Cowboys fan shouted:

"Hey, pirate! You're still 1–4!"

The Captain stopped.

Slowly turned.

Adjusted his hat.

And smiled.

"AYE, LAD! BUT TONIGHT, WE'RE ONE AND ZERO AGAINST THE COWBOYS!"

The parrot erupted.

"ARRR! PUT THAT ON A T-SHIRT!"

The Captain continued marching.

"WE CAME TO TEXAS WITHOUT A VICTORY!"

"AYE!"

"WE SURVIVED THE LONGHORNS!"

"AYE!"

"WE SURVIVED THE WAGON TRAIN!"

"AYE!"

"WE SURVIVED THE SEVENTY-TWO-OUNCE STEAK!"

The parrot hesitated.

"CAPTAIN, TECHNICALLY THE STEAK WON."

"QUIET, YE FEATHERED TRAITOR!"

"And the Texas Ranger confiscated your cooking equipment."

"THAT WAS A MISUNDERSTANDING!"

"And you owe the wagon driver eighty dollars."

"THAT'S A NAVAL EXPENSE!"

"And the restaurant wants its table repaired."

"PARROT!"

"AYE, CAPTAIN?"

"WOULD YE PLEASE ALLOW ME ONE BLOODY MOMENT OF HAPPINESS?"

The parrot considered the request.

Then smiled.

"AYE, CAPTAIN. WE WON."

And for the first time in weeks, the two old companions laughed together.

No arguments.

No mysterious odors.

No missing birds.

No emergency medical assistance.

Just a pirate, his parrot, and the sweet satisfaction of watching the Buccaneers finally emerge victorious.

Of course, the peace lasted approximately eleven seconds.

"CAPTAIN?"

"WHAT NOW?"

"HOW ARE WE GETTING HOME?"

The Captain stopped walking.

Slowly turned.

"THE SHIP, OF COURSE!"

The parrot looked toward the horizon.

"CAPTAIN... WE'RE IN TEXAS."

"AND?"

"THE SHIP IS IN TAMPA."

A long silence followed.

"PARROT..."

"AYE?"

"WHERE'S THE WAGON TRAIN?"

The parrot looked away.

"ABOUT THAT, CAPTAIN..."

"WHAT HAVE YE DONE?"

"I MAY HAVE TRADED THE WAGONS FOR A USED MUEL."

"A MUEL?"

"AYE!"

"ONE MUEL?"

"AYE!"

"FOR THE ENTIRE CREW?"

"AYE!"

The Captain closed his eyes.

"WHAT'S THE HORSE'S NAME?"

The parrot smiled.

"BUCKY."

The Captain sighed.

"OF COURSE IT BLOODY IS."

CHAPTER XIII: NEXT PORT OF CALL — THE STEEL CITY INVADES TAMPA!

The Buccaneers may have finally escaped the winless depths of the NFC South standings, but our Captain understands that one victory does not guarantee smooth sailing.

At 1–4, Tampa Bay still has plenty of work ahead.

The offense must build on its improved execution.

The defense must continue creating turnovers and limiting explosive plays.

Special teams must maintain the aggressive play that helped turn the tide against Dallas.

And somebody must ensure the Captain's parrot is permanently prohibited from making transportation arrangements.

Because the next challenge is approaching.

THE PITTSBURGH STEELERS!

NEXT GAME • WEEK 6

Pittsburgh Steelers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Sunday, October 18, 2026

1:00 p.m. ET

Raymond James Stadium — Tampa, Florida

The Captain studied the schedule.

"PITTSBURGH?" he exclaimed.

"AYE, CAPTAIN!" replied the parrot.

"THE STEELERS?"

"AYE!"

"THE MEN OF IRON AND STEEL?"

"AYE!"

The Captain scratched his beard.

"STEEL, YE SAY?"

"AYE, CAPTAIN."

"THEN WE SHALL NEED MORE CANNONBALLS!"

The parrot shook his head.

"CAPTAIN, CANNONBALLS AREN'T GOING TO HELP AGAINST PITTSBURGH."

"THEN FETCH THE BLACKSMITH!"

"WHY?"

"WE'RE BUILDING AN IRONCLAD PIRATE SHIP!"

The parrot sighed.

"CAPTAIN, THE LAST TIME YE BUILT SOMETHING, IT WAS A BONFIRE IN A PARKING LOT."

"AND A MAGNIFICENT BONFIRE IT WAS!"

"THE TEXAS RANGER DISAGREED."

"THAT MAN HAD NO APPRECIATION FOR NAVAL ENGINEERING!"

But the Captain was already making plans.

The Steelers were coming to Tampa.

The Buccaneers were returning home.

And for the first time this season, the Captain could look toward the next game with something other than dread, indigestion, and a desperate need for medicinal rum.

THE PIRATE SHIP WAS FINALLY MOVING FORWARD!

Admittedly, it was moving forward with a 1–4 record.

And several leaks.

And questionable navigation.

And a parrot who had somehow purchased a horse.

But forward was forward.

THE CAPTAIN'S FINAL LOG ENTRY: OCTOBER 2026

Recorded somewhere between Arlington, Texas, and Tampa Bay, aboard a suspiciously slow horse named Bucky.

Tonight, me fellow Buccaneers faithful, we celebrate.

Not because our troubles are over.

Not because the season has suddenly transformed into a championship voyage.

And certainly not because I've discovered a reliable method of traveling across Texas.

We celebrate because our beloved Buccaneers finally showed the fight, determination, and heart that we've been waiting to witness.

Bucky Irving ran like a man possessed.

Jalon Daniels commanded the offense with poise.

Our defense stood tall when the battle demanded it.

Our special teams delivered a timely strike.

And when the Cowboys threatened to steal our hard-earned victory, Alex Anzalone slammed the door and threw away the bloody key.

For one glorious Thursday night, everything came together.

The cannons fired.

The flags waved.

The pirate ship sailed.

And the Dallas Cowboys discovered that even a battered, bruised, and slightly intoxicated Buccaneers crew can still deliver a broadside.

THE LOSING STREAK IS OVER!

THE CURSE HAS BEEN BROKEN!

THE FIRST VICTORY OF 2026 BELONGS TO TAMPA BAY!

Now, if someone would kindly explain to me how we're supposed to get this horse across the Gulf of Mexico, I'd be most appreciative.

The parrot insists he's arranged a ferry.

I have absolutely no intention of trusting him again.

Although...

He did mention something about a luxury cruise.

Perhaps our luck has finally changed.

ditor's Note: The Captain was last seen boarding a livestock transport barge somewhere along the Texas coast. The parrot was wearing a captain's hat, carrying two tickets marked "ONE WAY," and refusing to answer questions.

TO BE CONTINUED...

FINAL WORDS FROM THE CAPTAIN

"ME HEARTIES, WE MAY BE ONE AND FOUR, BUT WE'VE FINALLY TASTED VICTORY! AND AFTER FOUR WEEKS OF FOOTBALL MISERY, I CAN ASSURE YE THAT VICTORY TASTES A BLOODY SIGHT BETTER THAN A SEVENTY-TWO-OUNCE STEAK!"

"RAISE THE FLAGS! HOIST THE SAILS! AND PREPARE THE CANNONS!"

"THE STEELERS ARE COMING TO TAMPA!"

"AND THIS TIME..."

"WE'RE NOT WALKING THE PLANK WITHOUT A FIGHT!"

— Professor Jam's Slightly Inebriated Buccaneers Captain

GO BUCS! FIRE THE CANNONS!

“Somebody watch that side.”

GO BUCS. FIRE THE CANNONS.

FEED BUCKY. FEED THE PARROT.

AND FOR THE LOVE OF EVERY PIRATE STILL ABOARD PICK UP THE BLITZER.

Per the words of Forest Gump… “And That's All I Have To Say About That”.
