501 Yards of Offense, BUCS 10th-Highest Single-Game Mark in Team History

Tampa Bay Buccaneers dominated the stat sheet, including with game-altering turnovers, totaling 501 yards of offense in today’s game, the 10th-highest single-game mark in team history.

QB Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 406 yards in today’s game, the seventh-most in a game in team history. He now owns four of the top-10 most prolific passing yard games in team history—all this season.

With today’s totals, the Buccaneers now have 3,251 passing yards this season, the second-most in NFL history through nine games. Tampa Bay has 4,075 total yards this season, the fourth-most in NFL history through nine games.

This was the sixth loss in the last seven consecutive games, Tampa Bay remains in last place of the NFC South with 3-6 following a 2-0 season start up.

THE BUCS BEAT THEMSELVES: Tampa Bay dominated the game by nearly every statistical measure, especially in the first half, when it entered the red zone on three of our first four possessions controlling possession for almost 20 minutes of game-play. We out gained the Redskins 501-286 in the game, after entering the red zone five times we still finished with only three (yes 3) points.

We believe even fumbling Captain Jack Sparrow could have found the end-zone, that’s really, how hard it should have been. Even Fox’s broadcast team reported that no team dating back to at least 1960 had managed at least 480 yards of total offense and scored three or fewer points in a game.

According to the NFL Pro Football Reference stats, the 2011 St. Louis Rams are the only other team dating back to 1940 to eclipse 400 total yards of offense and be limited to a field goal or less, also note we fired the kicker shortly after the game, and he was th only individual who scored. Two of the Buccaneers’ four red zone trips ended in Ryan Fitzpatrick turnovers. Two others culminated in Chandler Catanzaro missed field goals, including one toward the end of the third quarter when a botched snap got by Fitzpatrick and turned what would’ve been a chip shot into a 48-yard attempt.
