Buccaneers (5-7) Oppening Efforts Come Up Short With A 14-28 Loss To The Saints

Buccaneers offense pulled anchor with a solid opening game drive, sailing 75 yards in seven plays, only using 2:41 of the game clock. Highlights of the drive included a 36-yard reception by M. Evans and capped with an 11-yard touchdown reception from J. Winston to C. Brate.

Jameis Winston had a solid performance today, throwing 2 touchdowns and picking up 47 yards on the ground during 5 carries; unfortunately, it just wasn't enough for a Buccaneers victory.

Going into the second half the Buccaneers were facing the opportunity to suck the wind from the Saints sails, but they got a gust of confidence from a missed field goal, and blocking our punt.

Brees’ touchdown run put the Saints ahead early in the fourth quarter. Ingram scored on a 17-yard run to make it 14-28. Winston finished 18 of 38 for 213 yards, two touchdowns and one interception — an end-zone throw picked off by Marshon Lattimore with 1 second remaining.

The Buccaneers had 32 yards in the second half until Winston completed passes of 16, 12 and 21 to march into Saints territory on the final drive.

Penalties returned to hinder Tampa Bay, including an unnecessary roughness penalty on Buccaneers center Ryan Jensen late in the second quarter. The NFL fined Saints linebacker D. Davis $26,739 for unnecessary roughness. In the second quarter, Davis received a penalty for lowering his head to initiate contact when he tackled Buccaneers running back P. Barber after a 2-yard gain. Buccaneers center R. Jensen was not fined for his unnecessary roughness penalty in the game in which he had an extracurricular hit on Saints linebacker A. Anzalone.
