Tight End - O.J. Howard
Tampa Bay Buccaneers first overall pick.
The 2017 NFL Draft was the 82nd annual meeting of National Football League (NFL) franchises to select newly eligible American football players. It was held in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art from April 27–29, returning to Philadelphia for the first time since 1961.
The player selections were announced from an outdoor theater built on the Rocky Steps, marking the first time an entire NFL draft was held outdoors.
On April 29, 2017 the NFL announced that the 2017 Draft was the most attended in history with more than 250,000 people attending.
Starting from this draft, compensatory picks can be traded.
The Buccaneers first overall selection of O. J. Howard a tight end out of Alabama who many analysts believed could have been a top-five pick. The Buccaneers selected Howard at No. 19, a pick that many media members considered to be the best of the entire draft. ESPN's Mel Kiper said that the Bucs' first-round pick was "in the running for the best pick in the draft" while NFL.com's Adam Schein declared that the Buccaneers are headed for the playoffs after a successful draft.
The Buccaneers picked from 19th, 19th, 20th, and 18th through the draft. They traded their 4th round pick and a 6th round pick to NY Jets for an additional pick.
